Sidney Leslie Goodwin - The Unknown Child - is buried in Fairview Lawn Cemetery in Halifax, Nova Scotia. He was a drowning victim of the sinking of the RMS Titanic. His grave it the most sought after in the Fairview Lawn Cemetery.
Long Description:
Sidney Leslie Goodwin was born on September 9, 1910 in Melksham, Wiltshire, England. When he was 19 months old he, along with with his parents Frederick and Augusta and siblings Lillian, 16; Charles, 14; William, 11; Jessie, 10; and Harold, 9, was a passenger on the RMS Titanic's maiden voyage from Southampton, England to New York, NY. He died when RMS Titanic struck an iceberg and sunk of the coast of Nova Scotia. His unidentified body (#4) was recovered by the cable ship Mackay-Bennett, and until 2008 was known as simply The Unknown Child.
In 2008 by the Canadian Armed Forces laboratory used mitochondrial DNA analysis from DNA obtained from his shoes to discover his identity. He is the only member of his family whose body has been recovered and subsequently identified.
A small granite obelisk and a supplemental granite tablet identify his grave. They are inscribed:
