Short Description:

The Bandstand is located in the center of the formal Victorian Public Gardens in downtown Halifax, Nova Scotia, south and west of the Citadel.

Long Description:

Halifax Public Gardens are located in downtown Halifax, adjacent to the Citadel. It is an excellent example of a formal Victorian public garden, a valued green space in the middle of a busy city.

The bandstand is the signature feature of the gardens. The 30' high by 30' diameter, green and white circular structure stands out with its red roof with gold trim and ornate painted designs and surrounding flower beds. The gazebo is a place where concerts are often held and a brass band plays during the summer.

The stamp was issued by Canada in 1991 as part of a set of five stamps depicting public gardens throughout Canada.
