Short Description: 

A monument honoring the professional cliff divers of Acapulco is located to the entrance to the La Quebrada viewing area in Acapulco, Guerrero, Mexico.



Long Description:

The La Quebrada Cliff Divers are professional high divers who perform daily shows for the public. They dive 35 meters (115 ft) from the cliffs of La Quebrada into the "Gulch" in Pacific Ocean. The depth of water in the "Gulch" can varies from 6 to 16 feet depending on the waves and tide, with an average depth of 12 feet. They are some of the highest paid residents of Acapulco. Master divers and can earn more than $250 US dollars per day.

A bronze statue depicts a cliff diver in the process of free falling from the cliff. His body is arched with his legs and head up and his arms back by his sides. A smaller bronze plaque commemorates the first 50th anniversary of the divers, which began in 1934. A larger bronze plaque described the early history of the divers followed by a list of performers. It also described the formation of the "Club of Divers and Lifeguards of La Quebrada" in 1949 and lists the original officers.
