Quick Description:

The Basilique du Sacré Cœur (Basilica of the Sacred Heart) is a Roman Catholic church located at the summit of the Montmartre area of Paris.

Long Description:

A famous Paris landmark, the Basilique du Sacré Cœur is located on the highest point of the city. This large white structure is the most noticeable feature when viewing Paris from the Eiffel Tower. Basilique du Sacré-Cœur was built to atone for the perceived excesses of the Second Empire and the uprising of the Paris Commune of 1871, as it was built in the heart of the rebellious neighborhood. It is also dedicated in honor of the 58,000 who lost their lives during the Franco-Prussian War.
